On Wednesday, Atletico Madrid make the trip to the Parc des Princes to take on Atletico Madrid in their fourth league phase in this season’s Champions League. Antoine Griezmann will be a big player as usual for Diego Simeone’s side as they go in search for a much-needed victory, although had things transpired differently, they could have been facing the 33-year-old instead.
As per reports in the French media (via MD), PSG twice tried to sign Griezmann during his first spell at Atleti. Their opening attempt came in 2016, after the European Championships – on that occasion, he rebuffed them in order to remain in the Spanish capital.
The second time that PSG came calling was in 2019, when it became apparent that Griezmann would be leaving Atleti. However, it was Barcelona that he opted for, as the Catalans were the only club he considered joining over a stay at Los Colchoneros.
Atletico Madrid will hope that Griezmann can make the difference for them on Wednesday – if so, it would be a massive result.
