Saudi Arabia have assaulted the European transfer market over the last 12-18 months, and La Liga is one of the leagues that has been particularly affected by this. Many players have swapped Spain for the Middle East, although one that turned this opportunity down for Mallorca’s Dani Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, 36, has been with the Palma-based side since 2018, and his spell will continue – that’s because he rejected a contract from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club, as reported by Marca.
“This summer I had an offer from another club for three fixed seasons, but I prioritised staying here where I am happy. I would be very excited to play until the last day at Mallorca.”
Rodriguez has been a very important player for Mallorca since the start of the season, and increasingly, it looks like his desire of retiring on the island is more and more likely. His decision also underlines the commitment that he has for the club.
