Before the start of the summer transfer window, Sevilla only had two senior central midfielders: Djibril Sow and Joan Jordan. Only one (Sow) was in the plans of head coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, so it was imperative that signings were made in this department.
So far, sporting director Victor Orta has pulled through. Albert Sambi Lokonga and Saul Niguez have joined from Arsenal and Atletico Madrid respectively, and soon, they will be joined by Lucien Agoume. The 22-year-old is set to sign for Sevilla on a permanent basis, following his loan spell during the second half of last season.
As per ED, Sevilla will pay Inter Milan €8m for 50% of Agoume’s rights. They can acquire a further 40% next summer, although they would be required to pay another €4m if they take up this option.
Agoume’s return comes at a good time for Sevilla, with Sambi Lokonga expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury. A deal should be completed over the next few days.
