Sevilla considered hiring Real Madrid coach before settling on Garcia Pimienta

Last weekend, Sevilla confirmed the appointment of Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta as their new manager, replacing Quique Sanchez Flores, who stepped down at the end of last season. The 49-year-old was one of the leading candidates from early on, although he wasn’t the only one considered.

Sevilla were linked with Real Madrid Castilla manager Raul Gonzalez, but as it turns out, he wasn’t the only Los Blancos coach that was looked at. According to Diario AS, sporting director Victor Orta also looked at Davide Ancelotti, son and assistant to Carlo in the first team.

It would have been Ancelotti’s first venture into management, who has followed his father to Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid so far as an assistant. The Italian has considered becoming a manager, but for now, he is set to continue as number two to Don Carlo.

Real Madrid will be never thankful for Ancelotti Jr’s continuity, as he has proven himself to be incredibly valuable in the coaching team. It is inevitable that he will move into management on his own, although it may not be while he is still in the Spanish capital.
