The winter transfer window opens in 10 weeks’ time, and clubs are already looking to it in their efforts to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season. Sevilla are still looking for midfield reinforcements, and after the serious Achilles injury suffered by William Carvalho, so are Real Betis.
Both clubs’ scouting pool appears to be somewhat similar, as they have settled on the same target: Santiago Simon. According to reports from Argentina (via ED), Sevilla and Betis are in the race to sign the 22-year-old pivot.
Simon has stood out for River Plate over the last 12 months, and as well as playing as a defensive midfielder, he can also be utilised as a right-back – this would make him even more attractive for Betis, who were looking to strengthen that position during the summer.
Neither club will have much financial wiggle-room, so it won’t be easy for Sevilla or Betis to sign him in January. However, the option is there.
