It’s been a whirlwind few days for Atletico Madrid. They finalised the signing of Julian Alvarez on Monday, but they’ve also seen the breakdown of their two deals with Chelsea – involving Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion.
Atleti and Chelsea had agreed respective €40m for Gallagher and Samu, but with the Premier League side changing the terms in their agreement with the young striker, that deal collapsed. This has also caused Gallagher’s signing to be delayed, and if Los Colchoneros are unable to raise funds soon, they may miss out on the England midfielder altogether.
Gallagher has since returned to London, while Samu has also come back to Madrid. He trained with Atleti on Tuesday, as Diego Simeone’s side continue their preparation ahead of next Monday’s La Liga opener against Villarreal.

Samu is not expected to stay long at Atletico Madrid, as it appears that he will be sold during the transfer window closes – this would raise the funds required to sign Gallagher. He won’t returning to Chelsea, but he will seemingly be going somewhere other than the Civitas Metropolitano.
