All the headlines about the Spain squad announced on Friday were around a player who was not included, after Brahim Diaz opted to declare for Morocco.
But one player whose name was on the list, and who can benefit hugely from Brahim’s decision, is Alex Baena. The Villareal midfielder is having a brilliant season, building on an impressive 2022-2023. He got his first Spain cap and goal back in September in the Euro qualifiers, and will be looking to build on that in the next two weeks with Luis de la Fuente’s squad.
Before that he has an important game in the V vs. V Mediterranean derby against Valencia later today. He has 9 assists already this season, with Alexander Sorloth’s great form giving him a great target to aim for. The two will be hoping to link up at the Ceramica in today’s game, continuing the positive signs shown in midweek against Marseille in the Europa League.
