In yesterday’s game against Osasuna, Vinicius Jr picked up a silly yellow card for his sarcastic laughter in response to a referee’s decision. So far, so Vini. For all his quality, he can’t let a game go by without winding up, or getting wound up, or both.
Usually this isn’t a big deal, but in this case it’s his 5th yellow, and therefore triggers a one game ban.
But because of the way the season’s schedule has fallen, that means “almost a month without Vinicius,” as AS put it.
First up is a two week break for internationals. La Liga returns after that, with Real Madrid playing on the 31st against in-form Athletic Club – that is the game the Brazilian will be suspended for.
The week after that there is a break from league action while the Copa Del Rey final is played.
What that all amounts to is a long spell without club action for Vinicius. And to make things worse, the game he returns for will be the first leg of the Champions League tie against Manchester City.
For once, Madrid fans are likely hoping he gets decent minutes for his country, simply to keep him sharp so he can come into that huge game in top form.
