Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Mallorca was frustrating, to say the least. Carlo Ancelotti’s superstars fell to a 1-1 draw at Son Moix, and the home side were more than worth that point. The frustration for Los Blancos intensified further in the dying stages when Ferland Mendy was sent off for a wild challenge on Vedat Muriqi.
An automatic one-match suspension was applied to Mendy for the red card, but there were chances for it to be increased if the challenge was deemed to have been made in an aggressive manner.
Fortunately for Real Madrid, the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation has decided not to extend Mendy’s ban, as per Relevo. It means that the French defender will only miss Sunday’s match against Real Valladolid, and he will return to action next Thursday when Los Blancos take on Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.
Fran Garcia will deputise in Mendy’s place at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he will hope to play his part as Real Madrid go in search of their first La Liga victory of the new season.
