James Rodriguez

Rayo Vallecano cling onto dream of signing James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez could be returning to Madrid this summer. The former Los Blancos star, who left the Spanish capital in 2020 when he reunited with Carlo Ancelotti at Everton, has been linked with Rayo Vallecano in recent weeks. Celta Vigo had also shown an interest, but their pursuit has now ended.

Rayo remain in talks with Rodriguez, as per Relevo. The 33-year-old is currently a free agent, and his desire is a return to Europe – specifically, La Liga. He had been strongly linked with River Plate in recent days, but a move has been ruled out by their vice-president.

It would be a joy to see Rodriguez back in Spanish football. There’s also no doubt about his quality, as he was a star performer at this summer’s Copa America. If Rayo were to pull a deal off, it would be a fantastic piece of business – and one that would provide a big boost to their chances of staying away from the relegation zone this season.

  1. Would love to see James back in la Liga. Was hoping Celta Vigo could pull off something, but it would be a coup for Rayo.
