In recent weeks, there’s been increasing speculation on the future of Ilkay Gundogan. Barcelona only signed him last summer, but there has already been reports that they are willing to orchestrate a sale to ease their financial burdens.
On the back of this, Fenerbahce have registered their interest in Gundogan, with head coach Jose Mourinho very keen to have the German midfielder in his squad for the 2024-25 season and beyond.
However, Gundogan has told Barcelona in private that he does not want to leave, and he re-iterated this stance when he spoke to Turkish media on Thursday.
“I might be transferred to the Super Lig one day, but not this summer.”

It would make little sense for Barcelona to sell Gundogan, regardless of their financial problems. He was one of their better players last season, and his leadership will be invaluable for a very young dressing room. Furthermore, he would not command a large transfer fee because of his age.
