The Islanders are the provisional La Liga leaders thanks to Victor Casadesus’ 67th minute diving header, but Montanier also believed it was a lack of firepower that prevented the Basques from salvaging at least a point at the Iberostar Stadium.
“We fought to the end to try and get a draw,” Montanier told a Press conference.
“We knew it would not be easy to play here. In the first half we did well and moved the ball correctly, but we were unable to score.
“We have a problem in finishing off the chances we create throughout the 90 minutes.”
The Frenchman admitted he was ‘disappointed’ not to have taken at least a point from the game.
“We should have got something but Mallorca played as they always do by applying the pressure, particularly in the second half when they got in a lot of crosses.”
According to Montanier, his team dropped a level after the break and ‘only reacted after Mallorca had scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game’.
“We lacked quality up front and the technique to take advantage of the opportunities we had,” he concluded.
