Lionel Messi has commented briefly on the assessment that Barcelona may be coming to the end of their current cycle of success.
The club recently endured a downturn in results, losing the first leg of their Champions League Last 16 tie with Milan before consecutive Cup and League defeats to Real Madrid.
“At no time have I been sad,” reflected Messi in a Press conference held before Argentina’s game with Venezuela this week.
“Yeah I was hurt by the defeat because it was against Real Madrid, who continue to be our greatest rival. But then we came back against Milan.”
It was put to the 25-year-old that Barca may be coming to the end of a current cycle of success.
“When Barca lose two or three games, these things are always said. Within the dressing room we know we are well and what we want.
“There are many young players here who want to keep the team on the same track.
“So it was important that we turned things around against Milan.”
Tomorrow’s game against Venezuela will see Messi honoured pre-match for his four consecutive Ballon d’Or wins.
“The truth is that I did not expect it, I just came to play a game. I found out when I arrived. I honestly like this very much before the game and I’m also very happy for the gesture.”
