Matteo Moretto Transfer Column: Samu Omorodion, Julian Alvarez, Aymeric Laporte, Conor Gallagher

Matteo Moretto gives Football España exclusive information on the latest deals dominating the papers in Spain, as revealed in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing.

Atalanta on the hunt for new striker after Gianluca Scamacca

Obviously this only happened last night that Scamacca picked up the injury, which is likely to keep him out for a long time, but I can say that they have already received numerous offers of players to replace him.

There are various possibilities and options, but right now, there is no forward that is ahead of any other, because they are still working out how to approach the issue.

One player, and this is a suggestion not information, that could work well is Copenhagen forward Orri Oskarsson. The 19-year-old forward has just signed a new deal, so signing him could be difficult, but he’s a player that has attracted the interest of Girona amongst others. Girona are yet to make much progress, Copenhagen are asking for €20m, but Oskarsson would be more a gamble at his age, whereas Scamacca is an Italy international during his peak years.

Victor Osimhen at stalemate with Napoli as move fails to materialise

Right now Napoli continue to ask for a very high fee for striker Victor Osimhen, but it won’t be easy holding onto him either. He has to find a place that he wants to be for the coming season, and as it stands Osimhen does not want to leave for a team where he ends up losing money compared to what he is earning now. It could be that he ends up staying at Napoli without playing for a year, so it’s a delicate issue.

At the moment, a Paris Saint-Germain move is cold, Chelsea are focused on Samu Omorodion rather than Osimhen, and there have been no offers from Saudi Arabia. The whole thing is at a standstill at the moment, in part Osimhen won’t leave for a contract that is not as good as the one he has. I’d still say there’s more of a chance he leaves, but he still has to find an exit route.

Chelsea back in talks with Atletico Madrid for Samu Omorodion

The big change from a month ago when it seemed that talks had gone quiet is that Atletico Madrid went after Conor Gallagher, he has said yes to the move, and during the talks for Gallagher, Chelsea asked again about Samu Omorodion. They need a big offer to let Omorodion out the door.

The two deals are separate, but they are to an extent related, and Atletico will go for Julian Alvarez with the money from an Omorodion deal if it happens, but it needs to be resolved as soon as possible. They are trying to tie up the Gallagher-Omorodion deals definitively – Gallagher is already verbally agreed – to then go after Alvarez, who they are pushing for.

Paris Saint-Germain behind in Julian Alvarez pursuit amid Atletico Madrid interest

I can confirm that there are negotiations for Julian Alvarez ongoing between Atletico Madrid and Manchester City. In this scenario there is one club, Atletico Madrid, that are pushing very hard for a transfer, and another, Manchester City, will not make it easy for them, as they are asking for a lot of money.

Atletico are doing the numbers and trying to make them work so that they can pull off a deal, but it also remains to be seen if Atletico can seal a deal on personal terms with Alvarez, because he is on very high wages at City. So Los Rojiblancos will have to make a big effort in order to close that deal and reach the figures that Alvarez is asking for.

There are talks ongoing between all of the parties, a move is on the table, and the coming days will be interesting, but we shall have to see if Atletico can strike a deal.

It is also worth pointing out that Alvarez would prioritise moving to Atletico or staying in the Premier League over going to PSG, but Alvarez has options, and PSG continues to be one of them. An option that is on the table, but they are not moving with quite the same decisiveness as Atletico.

Aymeric Laporte on Atletico Madrid shortlist for centre-back spot

Atletico Madrid are looking for a second central defender to come in after Robin Le Normand, and a move for David Hancko is stalling, as we explained on Friday. I can confirm that Al-Nassr and Spain defender Aymeric Laporte is a player Atletico have enquired about, and he remains on their shortlist.

Laporte, for his part, would lower his salary significantly to return to Spain, but right now Atletico are focused on the midfield and on a striker, so we will have to wait and see if they move for Laporte. I would say that there are conversations still to be had before a move materialises, but there is a chance, and it may well come down to whether Laporte applies pressure on Al-Nassr to let him leave.

Matteo Moretto will be back with more transfer news in the coming days, providing exclusive information on the biggest stories in Spain and Italy.
