Matteo Moretto Transfer Column: Joao Felix, Samu Omorodion, Julian Alvarez and Andrea Mancini

Matteo Moretto gives Football España exclusive information on the latest deals dominating the papers in Spain, as revealed in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing.

Aston Villa possibility for Joao Felix losing ground as Chelsea negotiate

The deal is developing as we speak. Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are talking to the to resolve the matter, which involves Conor Gallagher. It’s true that Atletico Madrid are very frustrated with Chelsea for the treatment of both themselves and Samu Omorodion. Changing the conditions and causing the deal to break down just before it was signed.

The owners at Chelsea, and the ones who call the shots, like Joao Felix. He’s a player they have always liked, including when he was on loan there. Equally, Felix would reduce his salary to go there, and he is in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge. But, the clubs have to find an agreement for him.

Clearly, Joao Felix will cost more than Samu Omorodion, and they are negotiating and in talks, but in a very tense manner, due to the last 24 hours. I don’t think this can go on too much longer, above all, because Conor Gallagher is hanging on to see what happens. Gallagher wants clarity on his future as soon as possible.

I don’t think Aston Villa are likely to come away with Felix. They haven’t presented an offer either, right now, this market opportunity has come up, his agent Jorge Mendes is there in London involved in discussions with Chelsea, due to having just closed the Pedro Neto deal.

Julian Alvarez confirmed and Samu Omorodion likely on the way out

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Julian Alvarez on a six-year deal on Monday evening, for a fee of €70m plus €25m in variables from Manchester City. We’ll see what happens with Samu Omorodion and the negotiation with Chelsea, but he is waiting now to see what offers come in, and he is on the way out of Atletico. I am aware that his camp are already working to bring in offers from elsewhere for the 20-year-old, because now Omorodion does not see a return to Atletico Madrid as a possibility, because they basically sold him.

He wants to leave, it’s a matter that needs to be solved, and I think the money that comes in from Omorodion’s exit will be used for a central defender. Obviously their accounts will be better off for a sale, but Atletico are not in need of a sale.

Barcelona to bring in new member of technical staff under Sporting Director Deco

Andrea Mancini, son of Italian manager Roberto Mancini, was working as sporting director at Sampdoria, and his contract expired in June. They offered him a new deal, but he also had other offers from Barcelona and from a Saudi Arabian team. I think Barcelona probably decided on him from what they have heard, and perhaps they think he has a particular quality that could be of use to them. He signed Estanis Pedrola from Barcelona last year, he managed to bring in Giovanni Leone from Padova, a young right-back that was attracting interest from teams in Serie A, Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco.

I think Barcelona noticed him, and decided he was someone that could be useful to them, Mancini will join Deco’s staff at Barcelona, that’s what we know so far.

Matteo Moretto will be back with more transfer news in the coming days, providing exclusive information on the biggest stories in Spain and Italy.
