Manchester City, and Spain, are set to be without star midfielder Rodri Hernandez for the remainder of the 2024-25 season – he is reported to have suffered an ACL injury during Sunday’s match against Arsenal, and this means that he will be out of action for many months.
Because of this, Man City may opt to sign a replacement in January – not many would be able to live up to the former Villarreal and Atletico Madrid pivot, but someone that has already proven himself capable is Martin Zubimendi, when he replaced him in the Euro 2024 final.
According to reports in England (via Sport), Zubimendi is a leading target for Man City, if they do decide to sign a new defensive midfielder on the back of Rodri’s season-ending injury.
Liverpool tried – and failed – to convince Zubimendi to leave Real Sociedad during the summer, but the thought of playing under Pep Guardiola could be enough for him to make the move to Manchester, if it does arise in January.
