James Rodriguez signed for Real Madrid on the back of an incredible 2014 World Cup with Colombia, although he struggled to make a strong impact during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu. He departed in 2020 for Everton, but four years later, he could be returning to Spanish football.
It wouldn’t be with Los Blancos, but rather Celta, who have contacted Sao Paulo over a possible deal, as reported by Globo Esporte (via Diario AS). A deal is likely to be inexpensive, given that James is not a key player for the Brazilian side.
Celta are expected to present a proposal in the coming weeks, although there is no rush from the player’s side to finalise the situation, given that he is set to play for Colombia at this summer’s Copa America – at which point he could attract further suitors.
It remains to be seen whether James does return to La Liga with Celta Vigo, but if so, it would certainly be a marquee signing for the Galicians.
