The final weekend of the 2023/24 La Liga season saw Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club sign off with away wins.
Real Sociedad 1-2 Atletico Madrid
Both sides had already confirmed their European fate ahead of kick off in San Sebastian with Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and Real Sociedad in the Europa League for next season.
With nothing on the line, both sides rotated, to give their players an extra break ahead of Euro 2024 and the Copa America this summer.
In a scrappy game in the Basque Country, the contest was decided by goals at the start and the end of the tie, as left back duo Samuel Lino and Reinildo Mandava did the damage for the visitors.

Rayo Vallecano 0-1 Athletic Club
Rayo Vallecano avoided any final day drama, with their top flight status secured, but they were edged out by Athletic Club in Vallecas.
Despite creating the better chances either side of the break, it was the away side that buried their one real opening of the night, as Spain star Nico Williams tapped home from close range.
Williams ends the campaign on eight goals in all competitions as he prepares for Spain duty in June.

Ante Budimir put the hosts in front before the break and veteran midfielder Jose Luis Morales levelled after the restart for Villarreal.

The real excitement on the final Saturday of the campaign came between two sides already relegated as Almeria hammered neighbours Cadiz 6-1.
