Over the weekend, it was revealed that Las Palmas had been subjected to a €20m offer from Al Hilal for talented midfielder Alberto Moleiro. The 20-year-old, who was off the back of an impressive solo goal against Real Madrid, was being strongly pursued by the reigning Saudi Pro League champions.
Las Palmas were not in a position to reject this kind of offer, despite the fact that it arrives after the closing of the summer transfer window in Spain. That meant that Moleiro’s fate was in his own hands, and in the end, he has decided not to become the latest young talent to head for the Middle East.
As per Relevo, Moleiro has rejected the chance to join Al Hilal, despite a lucrative financial package being offered to him.
His reasoning is that he felt his blossoming international career would be stunted by a move to Saudi Arabia, while discussions with Las Palmas head coach Luis Carrion also brought him to the decision of turning down a Gran Canaria exit. There’s no doubt that this is excellent news for the Canary Islands-based side, and also all of La Liga.
