Espanyol striker Ben Sahar has joined Hertha Berlin after an unhappy time with the Catalans, reports Liga Futbol.
The 22-year-old Israeli international began his career with Chelsea in 2006, making just three Premier League substitute appearances during his time at Stamford Bridge and had subsequent loan spells with Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and De Graafschap before a €1m move to Espanyol in summer 2009.
Despite scoring the first goal in a competitive game at the club’s new Cornella El-Prat home in a 2-1 victory over Malaga, it proved to be the only time he found the net for Los Periquitos in 22 La Liga appearances, and for the past two seasons he has been on loan at both Hapoel Tel Aviv and Auxerre.
Espanyol boss Mauricio Pellegrino informed Sahar weeks ago he was not part of his plans and he has now decided to join Hertha on a three-year contract, despite the Germans having suffered relegation at the end of last season, and says he is delighted to be given the opportunity to get his career back on track.
“Hertha Berlin is a great club and I am proud to be able to form part of it, so now is the time for the hard work to start and I want to be able to show what I can do.
“I hope my new team can return to the Bundesliga again,” said Sahar.
