On the 30th of June, Barcelona announced the departure of Marcos Alonso, whose contract expires on that day. Sergi Roberto’s did too, but curiously, his exit was not confirmed nor announced by the club, although his employment was no longer.
In recent weeks, Roberto has been holding out for a return to Barcelona, putting off offers from the Premier League in the process. He’s also be using at the club’s training complex, although not as part of Hansi Flick’s squad since he’s not contracted.
The saga is now coming to its end, and it’s not a happy solution for Roberto. MD have reported that a farewell ceremony for the 32-year-old will be held on Tuesday at Auditori 1899 within the Spotify Camp Nou.

Roberto had been with Barcelona since 2006, but his association with the club will not go on. Ultimately, he could not receive assurances that he’d be re-registered upon signing, so it makes sense for a clean break to occur.
