Few predicted that Marc Cucurella would be putting in such brilliant performances as Spain’s starting left-back at Euro 2024, and for many, he will be in their team of the tournament. However one prediction from Gary Neville continues to haunt him, and Cucurella found time to take revenge on the former Manchester United and England international.
Before the tournament, Neville had pointed to Cucurella as one of the reasons that Spain would not come out victorious from the tournament, citing him as a weakness. Yet he showed plenty of grit throughout the course of the tournament, and in the dying embers of the match, sprinted forward on the left to cross the ball in for Mikel Oyarzabal’s winner.
In the aftermath of the victory, Cucurella posted a quote of Neville’s words on his Instagram story, with the caption: “We went all the way Gary. Thanks for your support.”

The Chelsea left-back has faced no shortage of criticism since his move to London, but has shown just how good he can be for La Roja. It will take a considerable amount of work to displace Cucurella from Spain’s left side now.
