Barcelona defender Hector Fort has been the subject of an enquiry from Alaves in recent days, with the Basque side looking to take advantage of a potentially overstocked backline. They have not received an outright rejection, but neither can they proceed with a move.
The Blaugrana and new manager Hansi Flick do not want to take concrete decisions before the German coach has had the chance to see all of his options in training, and that includes Fort. Initially the idea was for Fort to play as part of the Barca Atletic side this season, and train with the first team, gaining opportunities throughout the season.

However it now appears he will not feature for Barca Atletic. Sport say he will try to convince Flick in preseason to keep him around, or he will evaluate his options to leave on loan. Alaves were keen to strengthen their options at full-back with Fort – traditionally he has operated as a right-back, but has shown on multiple occasions to be a strong left-back too.
Next season Barcelona will have Julian Araujo returning from loan, and Alejandro Balde from injury. They are keen to hang onto Joao Cancelo, but outside of that, Fort stands a good chance of being a fourth option. There is of course the possibility that Jules Kounde spends more time on the right too.
