Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Osasuna on Thursday evening has set up a Superclasico in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup, with Real Madrid having also progressed to the showpiece event after a 5-3 win over Atletico Madrid 24 hours prior in Riyadh.
It will be the second year in a row that Barcelona and Real Madrid have faced off in the final of the competition. Last January, it was the Catalans that emerged victorious, winning 3-1 on that occasion. However, it should be a very different match this time around – at least that’s according to Xavi Hernandez, as per Diario AS.
“Real Madrid are better than last year. They’re a superteam, but we’ll try to dominate them and play them on a one-to-one basis. We won’t change much, and we’re very motivated.
“(I am confident of winning) because of our way of playing, our methodology, and our way of competing against Real Madrid. We did it here last year and we did it in the Clasico earlier this season until the 60th minute. That’s where the game has to go, to dominate it and to take more away from them. Let our DNA be seen more than ever. We’re extra motivated and it’s time to show our good game.”
Whatever the result on Sunday, it should be an excellent occasion, despite the match not being in Spain. Barcelona are very motivated to enact their revenge on Real Madrid for that defeat earlier this week, although Los Blancos will equally be up for it, as both teams aim for their first trophy of the season.
