Barcelona look set to cut ties with Ilkay Gundogan just over a year after the 33-year-old arrived, and just months after he finished the season as their leading assist provider. The German’s high salary is thought to be the motive behind the Catalan side telling the former Manchester City captain to look for new club.
As it happens, City are one of the sides in contact with his agents. Matteo Moretto has informed Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that Pep Guardiola’s relationship with the German could be crucial when he makes a decision on what to do next. He also explained that it was a distinct possibility that Gundogan could leave on a free transfer, as the Blaugrana simply look to save on his salary.
Marc Bernal: "We all dream of getting to the first team. When they told me that I was going to start… Well, the truth is that I didn't expect it and it was a unique moment that I will remember all my life." @FCBarcelona

Galatasaray are one of the sides that have shown interest in Gundogan, alongside City. The Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr are one of his other suitors, but he is not believed to be interested in a switch to the Middle East at this point. Various reports put Gundogan’s salary at €15-20m gross per year, without which, Barcelona believe they can register Dani Olmo with.
