Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera is set for a move to MLS according to a report carried by Marca. The Mexican’s contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires at the end of this season and it’s understood he’ll sign a deal with Houston Dynamo until 2025.
The announcement is thought to be imminent as Herrera gave the operation a green light last week after meeting with Pat Onstad, the American club’s managing director. The Mexican turns 32 next month and will earn in the region of $4m a year, making him the highest paid player on the club’s roster.
Born in Tijuana, Herrera joined Atletico on a free transfer from Porto in the summer of 2019. He had spent six years in Portugal after joining them from Mexican side Pachuca in 2013. The midfielder has earned 93 caps for the Mexican national team and scored ten goals. He played 71 games for Atletico, scoring one goal and contributing four assists during his time there.
