Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera will join MLS side Houston Dynamo at the end of the current season, as reported by Diario AS.
Herrera will return to the Americas nine years after leaving Pachuca in 2013 and moving him significantly closer to his native Mexico. A regular at international level for El Tri, he arrived at Atletico Madrid following six seasons in Porto.

The central midfielder has been a squad player for Diego Simeone for most of his three year spell in Madrid. Over the course of his three seasons so far, Herrera has amassed 71 appearances, scoring once and assisting on four occasions.
This season has been similar in trajectory for Herrera, although in recent weeks he has impressed fans with strong performances against Manchester United and Celta Vigo. Across his 20 appearances this season, he has 744 minutes of action but almost a third of those have come in the last three matches.
Ultimately, he had not convinced Simeone sufficiently to be offered a new contract with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. This leaves him free to join Houston without a transfer fee.
Herrera is one of a number of Atletico Madrid players who are out of contract at the end of the season, including Sime Vrsaljko, Luis Suarez and Felipe.
