Atletico Madrid will almost certainly need a new backup goalkeeper going into next season, with Horatiu Moldovan pushing to leave as soon as possible. Moldovan only arrived in the Spanish capital back in January, but due to the lack of opportunities to play ahead of Jan Oblak, he now wants to move on.
Targets are being lined up by Atleti, and right now, they are moving for PSV’s Walter Benitez. Benitez, a one-time capped Argentinian international, would be a solid addition to Diego Simeone’s squad, and with his contract expiring in 2025, Los Colchoneros believe that they can sign him for a reduced fee.
PSV are unwilling to part ways with Benitez at this stage. According to Voetbal International, Atleti have had an offer with €2m rejected by the reigning Eredivisie champions. An improved proposal is already being prepared.
🚨🇦🇷 JUST IN: There is currently no talk of Walter Benítez leaving for Atlético Madrid. The offer that PSV has received is far too low – around €2m. Atleti is expected to be back with a better bid.@VI_nl pic.twitter.com/rax2FXz1Zz

Atletico Madrid will be wary of paying too much for a backup goalkeeper, especially considering that big-money moves are seemingly in the pipeline for David Hancko and Artem Dovbyk. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if they pulled out of a deal if their second offer was turned down by PSV.
