Much to the frustration of Arsenal supporters across the world, the Mikel Merino transfer saga has dragged on for weeks. However, it is finally about to conclude.
MD have reported that an agreement has now been reached between Real Sociedad and Arsenal. The Premier League side will pay a fixed amount of €33.5m, with an additional €5m in variables also included as part of the deal.
Merino will soon bid farewell to the club that he joined from Newcastle United in 2018. His absence is a big blow for La Real, although they do now have the funds necessary to make significant signings before the summer transfer window closes at the end of next week.
A replacement could be on the agenda for Real Sociedad, although they have already acquired the services of Luka Sucic – the young midfielder is seen as somewhat similar to Merino, so he could be the player that Imanol Alguacil turns to over the course of this season.
